The Costa Rica Spanish Institute (COSI) is a total immersion Spanish language school with schools in both San José, Costa Rica and at the beach at Playa Manuel Antonio near Quepos, Costa Rica, North of Panama and Domincal and south of Jaco and Puntarenas on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. COSI offers intensive Spanish language classes beginning each week all year around at both campuses and our Teen Summer Spanish Program between mid June and mid August. We accommodate families througout the year.

Founded in 1994, COSI strives to be the best language immersion school in Latin America by offering high-quality, personalized instruction at a reasonable price. In spite of being a relatively new language institute, we have quickly developed an excellent reputation for providing personalized attention in a friendly atmosphere and with a highly professional staff.

We offer Spanish language immersion classes in San José, the capital of Costa Rica, and at Manuel Antonio National Eco-Tourism Park (beach and rain forest)  near Quepos on the Pacific Coast south of Jaco.

We will pick you up at the airport and arrange for your stay while in Costa Rica, either with a Costa Rican host family, in an apartment or in a hotel. Yes, there is surfing and other water sports available in the Manuel Antonio/Quepos!

Students typically arrive one to three days ahead of time and are picked up by the school at the airport and taken directly to their homestay family or any other accommodation that we have arranged. Most flights from the US arrive in the evenings about 9:30pm. Thus, students heading for the Manuel Antonio beach location will stay the night in the San José area and we will arrange your stay there. Class material is arranged in one week modules which allows us to begin new groups EVERY Monday throughout the year. Students can arrange studies so that they are able to study both at our beach and inland locations.

Students arrive early at the school on Monday for an informal placement interview and are placed at their appropriate level. We have both small group and individual classes or you can mix these. Classes are from 8-12 in the mornings, with mixed group/individual options having group in the morning followed by two hours or more of private instruction in the afternoon. Pricing includes airport pick-up, materials and snacks of bread, fresh fruit, coffee and juice on campus. Your family will help you with getting to campus the first day of class. The homestays are with middle class Costa Ricans or "Ticos" as they call themselves.. They have hot water, etc., and include laundry service. If you are vegetarian, diabetic or require other special diets, just note this in the Comments section of the registration form online.

We accommodate entire families arriving for studies all in one homestay family or in school accommodations. We include classes for teens and children. Teens join in adult classes where nice things happen meeting interesting people from all over the world. Are Summer Teen Program is self-contained. More information noted on this below. Children's classes are usually smaller and include instruction with teachers specialized in working with children employing shorter time frames and different activities (songs, arts/crafts and more) in these classes.

At COSI, there are many opportunities to learn outside of the classroom, especially when you join in cultural activities or go on tours with special COSI student discounts. There are usually 2-3 weekday afternoon activities that range from free to low cost and may include dance classes, short afternoon visits to area venues and more.

We are especially excited about our chaperoned summer program for teenagers. Families can send their teens for Spanish language immersion with confidence in our well supervised program. This program is actually in the Pueblito of San Francisco in the countryside away from San José. This is an active program with morning, afternoon and evening activities as well as weekend excursions. Some teens travel with there families and all participate in the intensive language programs. Other teens travel on their own to Costa Rica. Some travel with teachers to study here. We offer incentives for teachers bringing teens to our summer teen program. This program combines intensive Spanish language studies with a variety of weekday activities, weekend excursions  (Tabacon, Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna, cloud forest eco-tourism parks, adventure sports), and a homestay with a Costa Rican family.

SAN JOSE & MANUEL ANTONIO PRICES Payment Students can pay with traveler's checks, personal check, major credit cards or cash on the first day of classes. A deposit is required ahead of time. AVENTURAS will help you with this process after your registration is sent in. You may send in the registration to pencil yourself in for the time you want. Later you will pay the deposit via check. Time to enroll It is better to enroll at least 4 weeks in advance. Part of your payment helps to fund environmental protection as well as the education and well being of disadvantaged children, through donations to ASCOMOTI (protection of the squirrel monkey) and the Fundación Piedad which runs schools for children from poor neighbourhoods.
